As a first year graduate student and therapist in training, it is really great to hear a parent's perspective. There are many mixed messages about stuttering out there and it can be confusing for a therapist trying to learn how to treat stuttering as it can be for a parent trying to understand why his or her child stutters. Hearing a parent talk about what worked (parent conferences) and what didn't work (being told to listen for schwa insertion) gives me a better sense of where to start.
