I am not a person who stutters, but I do know how it feels to have fear build up while waiting for the teacher to call on me. I always had that fear even though I was fluent. I all people need to understand that fear and where it comes from. I was wondering how you would have answered your question about shaking someone's "hook" before you embraced your dysfluency and before you worked with others. Would you have put out your right hand before knowing what you now know? I think that is an important thing to teach children before they develop notions about people who are different. I suppose this is where inclusion in schools becomes an huge step. Children should learn about differences among peers rather than avoid them.
