When I met you pacing through the hall in Perth and asked you why you told me you were nervous before your speech. I told you this was the friendliest audience ever for a person who stutters. Later on I realized who you were, as you are a guru in our stuttering world and I thought: how can this man be nervous? It was surprised, but also pleased (sorry) to realize also other people with less or no stutter are nervous. I was also pleased to learn great people like you and other speakers are people who have been there, have become a name, but still are one of us. The stuttering communities, chatgroups and conferences changed my life. Meeting people just like me who understand, even without words. Before only music was my friend. And of course my large collection of soft toys. Now my new friends were like my greatest cheerleaders, telling me I COULD do things. I AM a nice person. And my stutter is not who I am, but something I just happen to do. And because I stutter I get to meet people like you. I hope we can meet again and that we get more time to talk. Thanks for sharing, David. And thanks for being you.
