I was immediately drawn to this article because, as a Grad student, I am evaluating where I eventually want my career to go, and am leaning toward school systems. First of all, Mr. Dell, how wonderful to work with such a pioneer in our area! I enjoyed reading your observations and recollections from working with Dr. Van Riper, but have questions about your methods with the school districts and Dr. Van Riper: How long were you in contact with the school districts before you started therapy with the children? Also, as a Grad student myself, I am always talking about therapy ideas and techniques with fellow students and professors hoping to gain more insight and experience in the areas where I am lacking. Do you feel school districts and other SLPs today are more open to collaboration than in previous years? Ms. Reeves, I really enjoyed reading your portion of this article as well. I am inspired by the changes that are taking place in our areas of specialty and look forward to working with individuals who have more experience than I do in certain areas. Do you ever find it difficult to work with someone who may feel you are “taking over their job”, and if so, what types of strategies do you use to overcome these feelings? Thank you both again, Natalie Winter, UWSP Grad Student
