First, I wanted to thank you both for posing a very interesting phenomenon. This has always been a question I have wondered myself and I was pleased to find interesting facts regarding both sides. My question is for Joe Klein. Being a therapist who stutters, I want to know if your personal experience with stuttering affects the way you feel about your clients. Do you ever find yourself being too critical of them? For example, if slowing the rate of speech down helped you throughout your life and a child is having difficulty, is this frustrating? On the other hand, do you notice at times being too undemanding on a client? Since you know the personal suffering and difficulties that a person who stutters faces, is it hard to be objective throughout therapy?
