Adekunle, Thank you for the honest comments. Your response brings up a good point - at what point does stuttering get in the way of a clinician's ability to carry out effective therapy. This point has been argued in graduate programs in the past and many pws have been told to work on their own speech before working with other pws. While I agree that severe blocks and struggling may make it difficult for a clinician to interact effectively with a client, I do not think that it has to "reduce the quality of his/her work." In fact, the questions that you raise regarding the inconsistent nature of stuttering and the mysterious causes may be best explored with a slp who has pondered those same questions.
