Hello, I believe that an individual does not have to stutter to be a fantastic clinician for stutterers. I believe that good therapy is practiced through the use of good evidence, experience and patience. I hold this opinion based on both my experiences as a client and as an SLP student. The student clinicians that I worked with are not stutterers, but they had great success working with me. I believe their success with me was based on using a valid and reliable tool, using their experience in the classroom and clinical setting, and my experiences and desires as a client. In addition, they were patient in that they allowed me to work through my stuttering, while also providing me with an accepting attitude during our sessions. Joe G.
