Thank you for writing such an insightful article. As a beginning clinician, working with a person who stutters was one of my biggest concerns, because I do not stutter myself. I know that in therapy clinicians require clients go outside of their comfort zone and do things that are difficult. How can I ask my clients to do something that I have no experience in? Even though I have stuttered in different places as class assignments, I still can’t tell a client that I know how it feels to stutter. This article helped alleviate some of those fears because no two people who stutter have the same experience. This means no clinician can know exactly how their client feels. This article helped to show me that even though I don’t stutter I can still be a good clinician.
