Pamela, One important aspect of regarding stuttering as a "gift" is considering all the wonderful people I've met and corresponded with as a result of stuttering. I am particularly struck by this each time I have the experience of sitting around a table having dinner with a group of fellow PWS in a nice setting at a meeting or convention that is related to stuttering. Of course, as I mentioned in the original paper, the abilty to conceptualize your stuttering as a gift is much more likely if you (1) if you no longer overtly stutter much much or (2) live a full and agentic life style where the possibility of stuttering isn't a factor in the choices you make.
