Having worked with a child who stutters, I cannot stress how important it is to have visual representation of the desired task. I think both stretching and smaching with come in handy with future clients, so thanks for the great ideas. I just have one question for Bill regarding smashing. When you begin a session and ask the child if he/she sometimes feels bad when they stutter and regardless of their answer you say "there's a way to get back at those darn stutters; lets make a piece of clay look like a stutter". If the child is young enough and has not yet developed any feelings towards stuttering, do you think this may shine a negative light on stuttering and influence the development of negative feelings early?
