Glad you liked the paper. That’s a good question about the adaptation effect and I wish I had more data to answer it. I can tell you that a few of our subjects reported just what you suggest: that the device seemed to work better for them when they wore it only when they felt they needed it, rather than throughout the day. I guess you could say they learned to wear it strategically in order to get the most benefit out of it. This is certainly what our subject in the single case study reported to us. Unfortunately, that’s about all I can say from our research. Others have also found an adaptation effect with some subjects (see O’Donnell et al., 2008), but right now not much is known about how common it is or how wearers change their usage patterns over time.
