Nice question! The answer, in my experience, is dependant upon clients, contexts, and circumstances. At times, my colleagues and I may receive a request from someone who has heard about the SpeechEasy and is interested in trying it out. These requests may come from either clients or other stutterers in the area whom we already know or from somebody new to us. In these cases we answer any questions, discuss various treatment choices, and help establish realistic expectations, which may then lead to an initial fitting. So these are instances when clients express interest to which we respond. In other instances, we will discuss the possibility of SpeechEasy use with our clients who prefer more traditional treatment methods, having them trial the device at some point. Keep in mind, there's an important reason why the SpeechEasy is available exclusively from certified/licensed SLPs: prolonged success with the device is rarely a "set it and forget it" phenomenon, inasmuch as periodic oversight and support is usually beneficial. Its introduction and implementation is simply part of a larger treatment process that is well-rooted in convention.
