As an audiologist I was struck by how similar client reactions to this device seem to be to the kinds of reactions clients have to hearing aids. We sometimes see the client who swears that his aid helps even though test scores show no difference. We also see clients who swear that there is no difference or even poorer hearing with the aid even though test results show better understanding etc. As with hearing aids and alds, the client is paying out a large chunk of money. When one pays out four or five thousand dollars there is a great deal of motivation to make the device work. As a speech pathologist what I'm wondering is how this device differs from others except for its packaging (smaller size etc.).
