Regarding financial aid, please see my response to Rick above. I’m unsure about what Medicaid covers, but I have seen voc rehab pay for part or all of the device. As for your hypothetical client, pairing the device with traditional treatment will almost always lead to better long-term outcomes than the device alone. That said, many people interested in the device live in rural places where they can’t easily commute to therapy, or are too busy to commit to regular clinical contact, or simply have endured too many unsuccessful treatment attempts in the past and are fed up with that route. For those people, it makes sense that they’d use the SpeechEasy as their only method of treatment. But generally we (and the device’s manufacturers) recommend that if one buys the device, it be used in conjunction with traditional therapy whenever possible as part of a multidimensional treatment program.
