Yes, the survey showed that nearly as many SLPs as physicians advised parents to delay speech therapy. There's also some pretty scary research showing that most SLPs are ill-informed about stuttering. Not every SLP can be a fluency expert, but it's not too much to ask that SLPs develop a basic appreciation of stuttering and, most important, understand their limitations. That means doing some homework when you encounter the rare client who stutters: check out the many resources online, consult a board recognized specialist if you can... and try to do no harm.
