Jenn: I've worked with many PWSC. Therapy usually begins to working to allow their stuttering to surface for all to see and hear. For some, that makes them feel like their problem is getting worse because they are stuttering more. But in fact, letting is be heard is the first real progress that is being made. I don't think there it is an inherited trait, running in families. Rather an individual choice in coping with stuttering.
